How research payments work
Who actually pays, how long the money takes, and what to do when a payment is late.
Who pays
Payment comes from the platform hosting the study or directly from the researcher. The money does not pass through us: we show where studies are and explain the terms, but participation and payment stay between you and the provider.
This matters upfront. A question about a late payment is resolved by the support team of the platform where you took part.
How long it takes
A typical window is from a few days to a few weeks after the session ends. The delay is almost always a review step: the researcher confirms the work was done, and only then the payout is released.
Longer windows happen when a platform accumulates payouts to a threshold or pays once a month. That should be stated in the terms before you take part — read that line before applying.
Payment methods
Most often PayPal, a bank transfer, or gift cards. For Ukraine the set of methods is narrower than for the EU, and it is worth checking before you take part rather than after.
- PayPal — the most common method on international platforms
- bank transfer — usually above a certain amount
- gift cards — fast, but not suitable for everyone
- local systems — rare, depends on the platform
If a payment is late
First check the participation status in the platform account: sessions are often marked "under review" and the payout window has not started yet.
If the window has passed, write to the platform support with the study number and the date you took part. Keep the correspondence and confirmations — without them it is harder to sort out.
