Paid focus groups: online and in-person

A focus group is a moderated conversation between several participants about a product, service, advert or experience. LazyBounty is a free paid-research aggregator that brings these invitations into one feed with the available terms. Payment depends on the topic, your profile and the meeting format.

What happens in a paid focus group

Unlike an individual interview, several people take part at once while a moderator follows a discussion plan. You may react to packaging, advertising, a new service, a website or a familiar product category. You do not need to persuade anyone else: researchers want different views and examples from real life.

An online focus group can take place in a video meeting, sometimes with a short task first. An in-person group requires you to attend at the stated place and time. Check language, time zone, camera, recording and length carefully, because participation means being present for the whole session, not filling in a form whenever you wish.

Who organisers are recruiting

Recruitment starts with a screener because the group must fit a particular subject. It may ask about city, age, household, recent purchases, profession or experience with a brand. This is not a judgment of you: the client needs a balanced group and may exclude people who work professionally in research or advertising.

Answer independently and do not try to shape your profile. If you say you used a product, the moderator may ask for detail. Do not send a friend in your place or apply again through another account. Those actions can undermine recruitment and cost you participation.

What determines the reward

The amount depends on remote or in-person format, length, required country or city, profile rarity and preparatory work. In the Respondent sample in LazyBounty dated 26 October 2026, the median study payout is $30 and 17% of listings pay $100 or more. This is not a focus-group rate, only a reference from the whole sample.

Higher pay often means harder selection or more time, not easy money. Check whether travel to an in-person location is covered, what happens if you are late and when payment is expected. Do not give up another commitment until the platform has confirmed your place.

Finding a group that fits you

In LazyBounty, filter the feed for focus groups and keep your country, language and other profile details truthful. A card helps compare topic, format, stated reward and time before you continue. After registering, you apply on the platform running recruitment, not with LazyBounty.

As of 26 October 2026, about 80 studies are added to the feed each day. An opportunity remains for around six days and users move to an application after 16.5 hours on average. It is worth checking suitable listings regularly, but only complete a screener when you can genuinely attend the session.

Avoiding fraud and misunderstandings

An organiser may ask you to complete a screener and consent to recording, but should not ask for an advance fee, deposit, SMS code, password or CVV. Do not send documents or work data when the terms do not explain why. A genuine focus group does not promise a place to everyone who fills in its form.

Do not mistake an acknowledgement of your application for confirmation of a place. A place is confirmed only when the platform clearly gives a date, time and next steps. Read the email before the session, since the meeting link or a final instruction can arrive in a separate message.

Keep the confirmation email, platform name and cancellation terms. If time, topic or payment changes after confirmation, do not rely on a verbal promise: contact the platform support. It arranges payment, not the aggregator.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a paid focus group?

It is a paid, moderated conversation in a small group about a product or experience. It can be online or in person.

Can I stay silent in the meeting?

It is better not to. You were selected to share your experience, so answer honestly and stay on topic.

Is travel to an in-person group paid?

That depends on the listing. Check the terms before you confirm participation.

Why was I not invited after the screener?

A group has few places and needs a particular mix of profiles. That is a normal selection outcome.
