How to get paid for research studies in Ukraine: PayPal, Payoneer, gift cards

11 September 2026 · 7 min read

The main way to get paid for research in Ukraine is a personal PayPal account. PayPal currently charges Ukrainian accounts nothing for receiving payments or for withdrawing to a card without currency conversion, but this is temporary: the official fee table says it applies up to and including 30 September 2026, until further notice. The second option is Payoneer, accepted by uTest and Clickworker. Gift cards do not always work, because the selection depends on the country.

How each platform pays

The platform chooses the payout method, not you. So before spending time on sign-up, check whether you can receive the money at all. Below is what the platforms say in their help centres as of 11 September 2026.

PayPal in Ukraine: what is free right now

PayPal expanded its services for Ukrainian customers on a temporary basis, as humanitarian relief, and renews the arrangement date by date. The current fee table for Ukrainian personal accounts says all the terms in it apply up to and including 30 September 2026, until further notice. PayPal reserves the right to change them at any time, effective once the notice is published on its website.

Here is what that table means for someone who gets paid for research:

Why 30 September 2026 matters

Free receiving and free withdrawals are not a permanent term but a temporary arrangement that PayPal extends date by date. We do not know whether it will be extended after 30 September 2026, and PayPal does not promise that it will. So before every large withdrawal, open PayPal’s fee page for Ukraine; the link is at the end of this article.

Our advice follows directly: do not let large sums build up on your PayPal balance for months. If the terms change, it is better that most of the money is already on your card.

How to set up PayPal so payouts do not bounce

Most payout problems are caused not by the platform but by small details in PayPal itself.

Payoneer: for uTest and Clickworker

Payoneer is useful if you test on uTest or do tasks on Clickworker. uTest pays to Payoneer once you have at least $2 in a pay period; smaller amounts roll over to the next one. The platform also warns that Payoneer is not fully supported in every country, so make sure in advance that you can withdraw from Payoneer to your own bank account.

Clickworker pays to Payoneer from 20 euros or dollars and to PayPal from 10 euros, weekly from Wednesday to Friday. For PayPal it requires the account to be verified and able to receive payments in euros. The methods available to you are shown in the payment details section of your account.

Wise and bank transfers

uTest offers a direct bank transfer powered by Wise, but Ukraine is not on the list of countries for that method. Poland, Germany, Lithuania and other EU countries are: if you live there and have a local account, it is the simplest option.

TestingTime pays to PayPal or to a bank account by IBAN. The company is based in Switzerland, so your bank may charge its own fee for a transfer from abroad. To avoid that, TestingTime recommends PayPal, in which case it covers the transfer costs itself.

Gift cards: when they work

Some platforms pay through a service called Tremendous. Respondent pays to PayPal or a Tremendous e-gift card; PlaytestCloud pays in gift cards, virtual bank cards, donations or PayPal. The card selection depends on the country, so check before taking part that it includes shops you can actually use.

There is a catch with PlaytestCloud: Tremendous charges 6% for a PayPal payout. Gift cards and virtual Visa cards carry no fee. If the virtual card works in your country, it is the cheaper route.

Which method to choose: a quick cheat sheet

Put together, the choice depends on where you live and which platforms you work on.

Taxes: platforms do not withhold them

UserTesting states plainly that it does not withhold taxes and that participants are responsible for reporting the income under their country’s rules. Other platforms work the same way. For someone in Ukraine this means research pay is foreign income that you have to declare yourself.

We will cover how to do that and which rates apply in a separate article with links to the Tax Code and the tax service’s guidance. Until then, keep your payout history: you can export it from the platforms and from PayPal.

If the money has not arrived

First count the waiting time by the rules of that particular platform, not by feel. UserTesting sends payment about 14 days after the test, Userlytics on the first Friday after 15 days from approval, Respondent usually within 7–10 business days.

Questions and answers

Does PayPal work in Ukraine for receiving money?

Yes, for personal accounts. Receiving payments with no currency conversion is free, and so is withdrawing to a card without conversion. The arrangement is temporary: PayPal’s fee table says it applies up to and including 30 September 2026, until further notice.

What happens to PayPal in Ukraine after 30 September 2026?

Nobody knows yet. The current fee table applies up to and including 30 September 2026, until further notice, and PayPal may change the terms at any time. Check PayPal’s fee page for Ukraine before you withdraw.

How much does PayPal charge to withdraw to a Ukrainian card?

Nothing when no currency conversion is involved, according to the current table for Ukrainian personal accounts. The bank that issued your card may have fees of its own.

Which platforms pay through Payoneer?

uTest (from $2 per pay period) and Clickworker (from 20 euros or dollars). Before connecting it, make sure you can withdraw from Payoneer to your bank account: uTest warns that Payoneer is not fully supported in every country.

Can I get paid without PayPal?

Partly: uTest and Clickworker also pay to Payoneer, and Respondent and PlaytestCloud pay in Tremendous gift cards. UserTesting, Userlytics and Prolific pay through PayPal only.

Do platforms withhold tax?

No. UserTesting says it does not withhold taxes and that participants are responsible for reporting the income in their country. In Ukraine this is foreign income that has to be declared.
