What this platform is
uTest is a professional network of testers run by Applause App Quality, Inc. Client companies open test cycles for websites, apps and devices, and members check them on their own equipment: hunting bugs, running test cases and answering usability surveys. It is remote testing work with no required qualification, but it pays for results.
uTest projects fall into five areas: functional testing, usability, artificial intelligence, accessibility and payments. Some are done at home, some on the go and some onsite. uTest is the only platform whose studies our catalogue tracks directly.
How participation works
You are invited to test cycles based on your profile: devices, systems and experience. In a cycle you follow the client’s instructions and submit bug reports or test case results. The client approves or rejects the reports.
You are paid for approved bugs, test cases, usability surveys and bonuses in some cycles, and experienced members also for writing test cases, automated scripts, security and localisation reports. There are also bug fix verification cycles, paid as test cases.
Your tester rating reflects activity and quality. Higher tiers bring higher pay and more invitations. Experienced members can apply for the Test Team Lead role, which needs 6 months on uTest, 100 approved bug reports, 30 test cases and a Bronze, Silver or Gold rating.
How it pays
There is no fixed rate. The amount depends on project complexity, the bug’s value to the client and your rating. If a company picks you as a favourite tester, you earn an extra 5% on every future bug in its cycles.
Payouts go out twice a month, on the 15th and the last day of the month, or the next business day after weekends and US holidays. Methods: PayPal, Payoneer or a direct bank transfer powered by Wise. Payoneer pays out from $2 per period.
The Wise transfer is available only in listed countries: Poland, Germany, Lithuania and other European countries are listed, Ukraine is not. From Ukraine that leaves PayPal and Payoneer; uTest advises checking in advance that your method works in your country.
What to watch out for
Your first weeks may bring no income: earnings depend directly on report quality and rating, and the rating grows gradually. The motto uTest gives newcomers is quality over quantity.
uTest warns about scammers posing as the platform: share information only through the platform itself or with official uTest and Applause domains. Real invitations arrive in your account.
Who can take part
You can join from age 18. uTest publishes no list of excluded countries; for participants in Ukraine the key question is an available payout method.
After signing up, a New Joiner Checklist appears on your home page: complete your profile and tick "I don’t have any" for devices and subscriptions you do not own, set up a payout method, and take uTest Academy courses and a live training cycle.
uTest Academy is free: text and video courses on testing basics plus practice in live training cycles. For someone with no experience it is the shortest path to first approved reports.
