How long paid research platforms take to pay: payout times compared

What this comparison measures

This is a comparison of what each platform publicly tells participants about getting paid, checked on 29 September 2026. “After completion” is not always the same event: some platforms start the clock when a researcher approves attendance, while others start it only after you request a payout.

We use “not published” where a public official help page does not state a universal figure. That is more useful than guessing from reviews, screenshots or one person’s payment history.

Every figure comes from the platform’s own participant help centre, listed at the end of the article with the date we opened it. Where two official pages give different numbers, we show both and say which event each one counts from. See how we collect and check our data in our methodology guide.

Payout times compared

Read the timing column together with its trigger. For example, Respondent counts from researcher confirmation, while TestingTime counts about 10 business days from your payout request.

Platform by platform

Prolific. The researcher reviews and approves your submission first, and only then is the reward added to your balance. Prolific says this usually takes a few days and that it approves a submission automatically if the researcher has not done so within 22 days. You can cash out to PayPal once your approved balance reaches £6 or $6.

UserTesting. You see the amount before you accept a test. The money goes to a verified PayPal account about 14 days after you complete the test, in US dollars, with no minimum threshold.

User Interviews. Most incentives arrive within one or two days, and researchers normally have up to 10 business days. Rewards come as Tremendous digital rewards unless the researcher states a different method in the study.

Respondent. Payment starts once the researcher confirms you attended, and then takes 7–10 business days. Incentives are in US dollars and arrive as a Tremendous reward after a 5% fee, with a $1 minimum. There is no balance to cash out.

uTest. Payouts run twice a month, on the 15th and on the last day of the month, to PayPal, Payoneer or a Wise-powered bank transfer. Payoneer and PayPal receive US dollars; the bank transfer arrives in local currency.

Testbirds. Payouts are made at the end of the month in euros to a bank account or PayPal, from €6, and Testbirds warns that processing can take 30–40 days after you request it.

TestingTime. Earnings appear in your wallet after a few days of verification, and a payout arrives about 10 business days after you request it, to PayPal or a bank account.

Userlytics. Payment goes to PayPal about 15 days after the test is approved, on the first Friday after that window.

dscout. All rewards go to PayPal, and payments should arrive within 10 business days of the study closing, after the researcher approves your entries.

Askable. Most payments are released within 4 business days of completing a study, and PayPal payments arrive within 5 business days. Depending on your country you can choose PayPal, an e-gift card or both.

PlaytestCloud, Clickworker and Ipsos iSay. PlaytestCloud pays within up to 3 days after a well-completed playtest, with no threshold. Clickworker pays weekly, from Wednesday to Friday, with a minimum that depends on the method. Ipsos iSay turns points into rewards from a country-specific catalogue.

How to get paid without delays

Most late payments are not a platform refusing to pay but a mismatch on your side. UserTesting sends money only to a verified PayPal account, and some Askable studies also require a verified PayPal, so verify PayPal before your first study.

Use the same email address on the platform and in PayPal, or add the platform email to PayPal as an extra address. dscout explicitly suggests adding your dscout email as an alias in PayPal if the two differ.

Count from the right event. A Respondent clock starts when the researcher confirms attendance; a TestingTime clock starts when you request a payout; a Prolific clock depends on the researcher approving your work. Contact support only after the published window has passed, and include the study title, amount and completion date.

Currencies and fees

Respondent lists and pays incentives in USD, then deducts a 5% fulfilment fee with a $1 minimum. Prolific says it does not charge a cash-out fee, although PayPal may charge for currency conversion.

Testbirds pays in euros. It warns that PayPal or a bank can deduct their own fee, including conversion fees. TestingTime says PayPal transfer costs are covered, while a bank transfer outside Switzerland can bring additional bank charges.

UserTesting pays in USD. uTest says PayPal and Payoneer can receive USD, while its Wise-powered bank transfer pays in local currency. For the remaining platforms, an exact platform fee or universal payout currency is not published, or depends on the reward and country.

What “not published” means

It does not mean a platform never pays or has no rule. It means we could not find that particular figure in its public participant help pages on the check date. dscout, for example, publishes its timeline and method (PayPal only, within 10 business days of the study closing) but not a payout threshold or fee.

For Ipsos iSay, the published reward catalogue is country-specific. The $5 and 525-point PayPal option, and instant PayPal transfer, are from the US catalogue and should not be treated as a promise for every country.
