Paid research sites that pay without PayPal: bank transfer, Payoneer, Tremendous and gift cards compared

3 October 2026 · 7 min read

If PayPal does not work for you, skip Prolific, UserTesting, Userlytics and dscout: all four pay through PayPal only. Platforms with other routes: uTest pays to Payoneer or a local-currency bank transfer via Wise; Clickworker offers Payoneer, SEPA, ACH and, in a few non-EU countries, a direct bank transfer; TestingTime pays to a bank account, and Testbirds to a bank account if you have an IBAN; CleverX to a bank account, a Visa card or gift cards; Respondent and PlaytestCloud pay through Tremendous, where you pick from options available in your country, and User Interviews through Tremendous gift cards and prepaid cards. Below is the full table and what each route costs you in time and fees.

Why this matters

Most guides to paid research assume you have PayPal. Many people do not: PayPal is not available everywhere, some accounts can send but not receive, and some people simply prefer a bank transfer. Signing up for a platform that can only pay you through PayPal means doing the work and then being unable to withdraw the money.

We built this table from the platforms’ own help pages. Payout methods were checked on 29 September 2026 for our payout-times comparison, and Clickworker and Tremendous again on 3 October 2026.

The table: 14 platforms by payout method

"PayPal only" means the platform names no other method in its participant help pages. "By country" means the platform says not every method is available everywhere.

Bank transfer: uTest, TestingTime, Testbirds, CleverX, Clickworker

uTest pays twice a month, on the 15th and on the last day of the month. Besides PayPal and Payoneer, it offers a bank transfer powered by Wise that arrives in your local currency; PayPal and Payoneer receive US dollars.

TestingTime lets you request a payout to PayPal or a bank account; money arrives about 10 business days after the request. It says PayPal transfer costs are covered, while a bank transfer outside Switzerland can bring extra bank charges.

Testbirds pays at the end of the month in euros, from €6: by bank transfer if you have an IBAN, otherwise to PayPal. It warns that processing can take 30–40 days after a request and that your bank can deduct its own fees.

CleverX credits a wallet, from which you withdraw to PayPal, a bank account, a Visa card or gift cards. For interviews and product tests it usually pays within 48–72 hours. Clickworker pays weekly and lists SEPA for EU countries, ACH for US bank accounts and, in a few non-EU countries, a direct bank transfer that needs an account in your country of residence able to receive SWIFT transfers.

Payoneer: uTest and Clickworker

If you use Payoneer, only two platforms in our comparison name it as a payout method: uTest and Clickworker. uTest pays Payoneer in US dollars.

Clickworker warns that not every payment method is available to every Clickworker and says the methods open to you are shown in the payment details section of your account, so check it after registration, before you start work. Its minimum payout depends on the method: €10 for PayPal and SEPA, $10 for ACH, €20 or $20 for Payoneer and €20 for a direct bank transfer.

Tremendous: Respondent, User Interviews, PlaytestCloud

Tremendous is a rewards service that research platforms use to pay participants. Instead of cash into a wallet, you get a reward link and choose how to receive it. Tremendous says it offers bank transfers, Venmo, Cash App and PayPal in more than 100 countries and regions, prepaid cards in hundreds of countries, and over 2,500 gift cards, and that it shows local options based on where you are.

The options you actually see depend on your country and on what the sending platform allows. Respondent pays in US dollars as a Tremendous reward after a 5% fee (minimum $1), 7–10 business days after the researcher confirms you attended. User Interviews also uses Tremendous but limits its rewards to digital gift cards, prepaid cards and donations, without cash transfers, usually within one or two days. PlaytestCloud pays through Tremendous within up to 3 days of a well-completed playtest, with gift cards, virtual cards, donations or PayPal.

Gift cards: Askable and Ipsos iSay

Askable lets you choose PayPal, an e-gift card or both, depending on your country, and pays in local currency where it can. Ipsos iSay converts points into rewards from a catalogue that differs by country; its US catalogue includes PayPal, but that should not be read as a promise for every country.

Gift cards are fine if you would spend the money in that shop anyway. If you need cash, prefer a platform with a bank transfer or Payoneer.

PayPal-only platforms: what to know

Prolific cashes out only to PayPal, from a £6 or $6 approved balance, and says it charges no cash-out fee, though PayPal may charge for currency conversion. UserTesting pays only to a verified PayPal account, about 14 days after a test, in US dollars. Userlytics says that if PayPal works in your country, you can take part, because PayPal is its only method. Dscout pays all rewards to PayPal.

If you have PayPal but it is limited, verify it before your first study and check each platform’s rule on email addresses. Prolific says the email on your Prolific account and your PayPal email can differ, as long as the linked address is the primary one in PayPal. Dscout suggests adding your dscout email to PayPal as an extra address if the two differ.

Which route to choose

Pick the platform by how you want to receive money, then check that the method is available in your country before you do any work.

Fees and delays to expect

Every route has a cost, even when the platform charges nothing. Respondent deducts 5% with a $1 minimum. Testbirds and TestingTime warn that your bank can charge for incoming transfers, especially across currencies. Conversion from US dollars or euros to your currency usually costs something on any route.

Timing also differs a lot: from up to 3 days on PlaytestCloud and 48–72 hours on CleverX, to twice a month on uTest and up to 30–40 days after request on Testbirds. If a payment is late, count from the right event and only then contact support.

One practical habit saves most trouble: before your first study on any platform, open its payment settings and add your payout method first. If the method you want is missing for your country, you learn it before you have done any work, not after. Keep a short note of which platform pays to which account, in which currency and on which schedule. When you use three or four platforms at once, that note is the quickest way to spot a payment that never arrived, and it gives support the details it asks for: the study title, the amount, the completion date and the account the money should have reached.
